Timing and luck...

It can be everything when it comes to nature photography.

It's tough to pay attention to the changing sky of sunrise as you drive, but I was able to see this one from its first hint of color.

After turning onto a side road, I was presented with this incredible reflection of colors in my rear view mirror. Within minutes of parking, the colors had started to fade.

A unique place, it is home to many rare plant species.

Constant winds allow for strange, contorted, and stunted growth of the few trees that grow in the open.

The Big Meadows climate allows for several northern climate trees to grow this far south. This is a Gray Birch.

Constant winds allow for strange, contorted, and stunted growth of the few trees that grow in the open.

The Big Meadows climate allows for several northern climate trees to grow this far south. This is a Gray Birch.

A shallow depth-of-field allows each succeeding layer of small branches and catkins to slowly merge into the sunset.
